The IME Mentoring Program connects students with alumni and industry professionals who provide career guidance, workplace insight, encouragement, and practical support as students prepare for internships, graduate school, leadership opportunities, and life after college.

Students in the FAMU–FSU College of Engineering who are interested in personal, academic, or professional development are encouraged to apply.

Alumni, engineering professionals, industry leaders, and other qualified professionals who are committed to supporting students may apply to become mentors.

Mentors may provide support in areas such as:

Career exploration and planning

Internship and job preparation

Résumé and interview development

Graduate school considerations

Workplace and industry insights

Leadership and professional development

Networking and relationship-building

Matches are based on the information provided in the mentor and mentee interest forms. The program considers career interests, industry experience, professional goals, areas of support, communication preferences, and other relevant factors. While every effort is made to create a strong match, a specific pairing cannot be guaranteed.

Mentors and mentees are expected to meet at least twice during the semester. Each pair may choose to connect more frequently based on their goals, schedules, and availability.

Meetings may be held virtually, by phone, or in person when appropriate. Mentors and mentees should agree on a format that is accessible, professional, and convenient for both participants.

Mentees should:

Attend scheduled meetings and communicate consistently

Come prepared with questions, goals, or topics to discuss

Respect their mentor’s time and experience

Remain open to feedback and new perspectives

Complete requested program check-ins and feedback forms

Mentors should:

Be available for at least two meetings during the semester

Provide thoughtful guidance, encouragement, and professional insight

Maintain appropriate professional boundaries

Communicate consistently with their mentee

Complete requested touchpoint and feedback forms

Yes. Depending on program needs, availability, and mentor preferences, a mentor may be matched with up to two students.

No. The program is designed to support students at different stages of their journey. You may apply whether you have a specific career goal or are still exploring your interests and options.

No. College alumni are strongly encouraged to participate, but professionals from other institutions, industries, and career pathways may also be considered.

The program team will review your information and use it during the matching process. You will receive additional information about orientation or kickoff activities, program expectations, and your match when one is available.
